Thursday IV's

Aj and Dad are at the Center getting IV's and Fluids. She is having a hard time with shortness of breath and is still not feeling great. The doctor feels like they might need to cut down on the amount of Chemo she is getting for her treatments. Please join us in praying about this. Also, she is back on some antibiotics since they are afraid that infection is still holding on. Please cover her in prayer as you think about it. And her sister who is having a really hard day being so far away. It is easy to be home on her good days...just want to hold her hand on bad ones.

Prayer needs
  • Infections needs to be GONE!
  • The Doctors will make the right choice on the amount of chemo to give her during treatments.
  • Strength
  • Rest
  • That the meds are doing what they need to do
  • Getting enough fluids
  • Spirt, mind and attitude
  • For my sweet Daddy as he sits with her. No parent dreams of this situation.
God, we hold tight that you are in control and you hold all these things in your hands. Please help Aj to feel better. Please be with her family as they are starting to walk in the new "normal" for the time being. Love on each of them in a special way. Amen

Loving each of you during the good, bad and the ugly!

Wednesday...prayers

The doctor feels that the infection might be back...ugh! Please please pray they can stop it from making her so so sick! She goes back in the morning for some IV meds just like she did today.
She has slept a good part of today. Please pray for Gods healing hand to remove the infection from her body now so that the chemo can do its job of killing the cancer.

Thank you!

Shots and Fluid

Today Aj went in for her shot, some meds to help the "room stop spinning" and some fluid. She will go back tomorrow again for more of the same. The doctor came in twice while her and Mom were there to check on her. Mom said that Dr. Haq kept saying...Angela we have to get you feeling better. So... we are thankful that the Doctor is on top of getting her to feeling better faster. The faster she can get the chemo out of her body the better she should feel.
A spirt lifter...DAD!!!! YAY!!!! Daddy arrived in Deer Park today and I know Aj was glad to seem but as well at Mimi and Bailey...He was like a halloween treat! Bailey was so glad to see him. Sadly she didn't realize that Popau is Mimi's ride home...but, hey I am not ruing this for her. Anyway, thank you for praying for Dad as he traveled. He is still dealing with many issues...as well as heath issues :) But, he made the trip and all are thankful to see him.
When they FaceTime with me and KK they all looked really tired.

Prayer Needs!
  • Good nights rest for all the Deer Park Crew.
  • Good night rest for the Lockney crew. Kaileigh is sick and didn't go to sleep till 4:15 and then was ready to go to school at 6:00 (I am afraid I am feeling too old for those all nighters)
  • Pray that AJ feels a lot better tomorrow and gains some of her strength back full force.
  • Help Aj to feel the comfort of family as well as our Heavenly Father comforting her.
Each day some reminds me in a special way how blessed we are as a family to have such wonderful people walking alongside of us during this bumpy patch.

Happy National Cat Day...I hate cats...but it was useless knowledge I thought I would throw out there!

Treatment #2 -- Check

Treatment number 2 is over and behind her. The chemo must be working because she isn't feeling great this evening. But, it is over and on to building her white cells back up so she can be feeling great again. She will go back tomorrow for a short and a bag of fluids and then again on Wednesday. They have a good plan in place to try to avoid the sickness like she had last time. Please join us in praying for...
  • No side effects
  • Assurance that the infection is killed out.
  • Rest
  • No additional sickness.
Thank you sweet friends and family for your prayers. I am working on getting bracelets out this week some time. So, if you had asked for one and don't get it some time this week...ask again!

Love you all,

Treatment #2

As the old saying goes...All good things much come to an end...why is the weekends go so fast and the weekdays just drag by. Goodness this was a fast weekend! However, I am looking forward to next weekend when we get an EXTRA hour of sleep. It is much needed in the Cook house.
Tomorrow...brings treatment number 2. I have a heavy heart tonight for a few reason. I hate that Aj is even having to face this stupid cancer. And she has just now finally gotten to feeling better since her virus...and her she starts the whole cycle over again.
So...this is when we call and you our prayer warriors. We ask you to lift Aj up not just tonight and tomorrow but for the next week. Pray for Bobby, Mom and Bailey as they are all there in Deer Park and will all be supporting Aj this week. I love the fact that I can see how many times this blog has been viewed because that just allows me to share with Aj how many people are praying for her. Thanks for being so faithful on her behalf.

Prayer Needs
  • That Aj gets a good nights rest, that she will feel refreshed and have a sense of protection.
  • That she will not fall into some of the negative traps that Satan sets.
  • She will not have ANY side effects from this treatment.
  • Treatment is at 9:30am so we would love your prayers for her then...Treatments last about 3 hours.
  • That she will in someway have the chance to share Jesus with someone tomorrow at the Rose.
Father, we come to you tonight on behalf of my sweet sister Aj. We ask that you would help her to sleep well tonight, and to wake up rested and feeing very comforted by you and the people she knows that are loving her along this journey. Please be with Bobby as he helps carry her down this bumpy road and be with Mom as she sits with Aj and Bailey as she is having to deal with all this at such a young age. Please help Aj's body to be free of infection and to not have any of the side effects to this chemo treatment. Help her to be able to rest and allow the treatments to battle this cancer in her body. God we trust that you have gone before Aj and for that we are thankful. We know that you have a perfect plan and please help us all to trust you with this daily. God, thank you for loving us and thank you for sending your Son so that we might be able to face these hard days.
Amen.

Just got a call from Aj...all is clear for Chemo on Monday. Her white count was good! Her sprits are great but her energy is still lacking.

Prayer Needs
  • That she continues to get stronger and stronger.
  • No side effect from Chemo.
  • Infections is gone and will show no sign of coming back after next treatment.
Everyone have a great weekend.

Good News!

Aj saw the infectious disease Doctor today. He told her she was on the right track. She had to have to much fluid while she was in the hospital it is just going to take her body time to process all that. But, he felt like the infection should be gone but wanted her to stay with the antibiotics till Sunday just in case. She WILL get to have her Chemo treatment IF her white count is where it needs to be. Which she will find out tomorrow. The have a plan in case the infection is gone and acts up after her next treatment so they are ready for battle if they need to be. The other good news is the insurance approve one of the meds she is needing which was kind of a problem at first...but that is taken care of. Thanks for the prayers on that! I FaceTimed with Aj during my lunch and she looked tired. But, a trip to the doctor can do that to a health person. So, she was ready for a  nap but she looked good. So all in all this was a great report and the doctor is on board to make her feel better and help her along the way! For this we are thankful! Loads of love to all our pray warriors!

Prayer Needs
  • That her white cell count is high and ready for her next treatment.
  • That her body will already be building itself to carry her through her next Chemo on Monday.
  • She will get the rest she needs to be ready for Monday.
  • That the infection will be KILLED out and totally out of her body!!!

Dad and I were talking tonight and he shared how amazed he was at how many people were praying for our sweet Aj. We thank you. This is a 6 month process and we ask that you stay with us and pray Aj through this bump in the road. I am ordering more bracelets because so many people are asking for them...how cool is that. People that haven't ever met Aj in person are wanting bracelets to keep lifting her up as she fights this battle. Thank you!

Cook Update

The other day I was visiting with a friend that is keeping up with the blog and they encouraged me to not to forget the reason I started this blog several years ago which was to keep up with different things happening in my kids lives and such. So, in the mist of the bumpy road I should still include what is happening in the Cook family...It is hard to not just focus on Aj because I want to keep all up to date but I thought I would throw a little Cook update in...
We are back in the pig business. While I was gone to Houston Chad and Kalebh searched the world over and they did find true love....a Duroc (Brownie) and a Cross (Blackout).
So here we go!

Pictures as Promised

Hello! I hope each of you have had a wonderful Monday. Mine started early and thanks to my wonderful Brother in law for taking me to the airport this morning!
I have talked to Aj a few times since getting home and she sounded great. She is still getting really tired fast but all in all she is doing good. They are still working to get her antibiotic issue worked out but that will just take some time I think. It is very important to get this under control so that it can keep working to kill the virus that made her so sick after her treatment. That needs to be gone by her next treatment so she doesn't have another flare up.
As I promised...Pictures.

Bailey and I grocery shopping! She was great help!

Blessings from a wonderful church family.

Team Aj...If you would like a bracelet to remind you to pray for her. Let me know and we can get you one. I have some in Lockney, Deer Park has some and we can get some to Artesia or wherever you are. Just holler.

Short Update...

Good evening Friends!
Tonight will have to be a short update. I am a little emotional about heading home. I am ready to see my family but so so heart sick about leaving here. On a good note...today was a wonderful day. Aj felt so good today! She was herself and even after her morning nap felt like going to the hat/scarf party her friends and church family gave her. What a sweet sweet group of ladies from her church that put on a wonderful time together. It was really a blessing to all of us. I have pictures I will get uploaded tomorrow.
Today while I was helping AJ blow dry her hair, clumps of it started coming out...after we both had a small melt down it was time to leave...she made the decision to have it all shaved off once we got back from the party.  I had selfish mixed emotions...I like my world where all this isn't really happening and when she decided to go ahead and do this I felt sick at my stomach. But, God came and joined us in all this and it was a good thing. She looks just beautiful! And no more of that sick feeling when she washes her hair or such. Thanks to her Mother In Law Glenda for coming and doing it. Glenda was one of the first people we met when we move to Deer Park back in the 90's as she did all of our hair. Thank you to Morgan, Pitman and crew for the wonder day you planned. Thank you Mom for bring some laughter to the hair shaving...as you came in with a long black wig! Thank you Aj for allowing me to be here to stand by your side through this whole weekend. We have been down some really fun roads, some bumpy roads and some just flat hard not fun roads. But, I always knew I could look up and see you cheering me on, supporting or just helping...no matter if it was moving to a new place, starting a new school, or being faced with a very unfair situation... Now it is my turn to do the same. And for that I am grateful!

Prayer Needs
  • Meds. She is still having some issues with her meds. Pray they can work with the doctor this week to get this worked out and better.
  • That her white count is where it needs to be.
  • Continue to feel better, get stronger and keep resting well.
  • As she adjust to her new look of no hair! I love it!!
Thank you as always for praying. I will have pictures and such tomorrow!

Saturday Update

Aj informed me today that when she feels better she was going to read this to keep up with what all has happened while she was "out of it"...Yikes! I better be on my best behavior! She has been a super star today. She took her first outing since I have been here to the Deer Park famous Morning Kaloches (spelling). We drove through the drive thru...but mainly because I was in my PJ's. But, she did great. She has ate better today but slept more as well. Maybe the two things she needs the most.
I got to be on "babysitting" duty while she slept most of this afternoon so me and the Kliff Kingsbury of Texas Tech had a date...to which turned out with a great win making Tech 7-0!
Once Mom and Bailey got back and Bobby was back home Mom and I took Bailey out for lunch. It was a great girls day. The only thing that would have made it better would to have had my KK here. I miss my kids so much but, my heart is here right now. Thinking about leaving Aj on Monday leaves me a little teary eyed every time I think about it.
Tonight I got to meet one of Aj's sweet, sweet friends. She came and hung out with us while we watched a movie. She has been a wonderful blessing to Aj and her family! I am so thankful that God goes before us in every situation to make sure we are taken care of!
Things to pray for ---

  • Aj's church family is having a hat and scarf party for her tomorrow. Please pray that she will have the energy to go and be a part of this sweet thing they are doing for her. Or that she will have a peace to know it is too much and she needs to miss out on it at this time.
  • Pray the rest will keep coming. She is getting good rest at night. The best part of her day is in the mornings and each morning is lasting longer and longer. So, I think that is a move in the right direction.
  • Her stomach is still giving her some issues as far as pain and such. Please pray this will cease!
  • And selfishly...Pray for me that I will have a peace about leaving her. I hate the distance. I hate the thought of not being here to hang out on her couch, wait on her hand and foot, rub her feet with lotion...just being with her. But, I am ready to see my sweet hubby at home and my two wonderful kiddos!
God, we know you are preparing great things for Aj and her family. We know you are already working in her body to heal her from this ugly virus she has and the cancer. But, God tonight I come to you asking you for her strength and endurance. Please restore those things in her tonight. Be with her and Bobby as they rest tonight. Help them to not only sleep well but to get the rest they need. Be with Bailey as she adjust to this change in her families lives. Mom is here to help please show her the ways she can be the most useful but help her to find rest in you as well. Father, we thank you for the wonderful things you have already done and we thank you for all that you are going to do. Thank you for blessing us and for sending your Son Jesus. Amen!

Update from Laird Headquarters

Sorry for the lack of blog the last day or so. You know how they say when you are in the fire it is harder to see out...well, I wouldn't say I am in the fire but I am on the ground at Team Laird Headquarters where the leader of the crew "Bobby" is doing an amazing job! He FOR SURE gets the gold star for this month! He has been a super star getting everything organized, a calendar for meds, and I promise you he has ran to the store at least 6 times since we have been here for different things...It brings such joy to my heart to see such a wonderful guy taking such great care of my sister...his wife! We love Bobby!
Now, on to Aj...Well, I would love to be updating that this stupid bug is behind us...and that she was all better and ready to face chemo treatment two...but that isn't the case. It is looking like she will have to put treatment 2 off a week but this next week will be the true test of that. Today after calling the doctor to talk to them about some major issues they took her off one of her medications and it seems to have helped a great day. This afternoon she started having that awful pain in her stomach to which Bobby figured out was due to this awful cough she has and that isn't letting go. Once they got the coughing under control and enough time passed off the other meds she seemed better. Thanks to many of your prayers and sleeping pills she got some great rest. 4 hours in one stretch which was a great feat for the week. As I am writing to you tonight she is already in bed and asleep really good.
Bailey is home. Noise is really hard for Aj to handle. So, Bobby waited till we knew Aj was feeling some better and he brought Bailey home. She is being such a great sport about playing the whisper game with Aunt Katie and Mimi. She is so sweet and is only 4 years old. This is a lot for her to take in but she is going a great job. Time will tell how Aj can handle getting back to the "normal" life.
It has been such a joy for me to be here with Aj. I have gotten to wait on her, run errands and just sit...It has been a major blessing to my heart. But, at the same time also one of the hardest things I have ever done. I love her so much and hate to see her having to do this. I hate everyone bit of the stupid virus and sutpid Cancer. But, all day I have been reminded that God is in control and he has such great things in store for this Laird family. But, in the mean time I am reminded that Christ desires for us to share our hearts with him. The song by Third Day has come to my mind all day.

Well no matter who you are and no matter what you've done
There will come a time when you can't make it on your own
And in your hour of desperation
Know you're not the only one
Prayin', "lord above, I need a miracle
I need a miracle"

This is so true. I would love to wake up in the morning and see that silly smirk on my sweet sisters face and hear her laugh and not cringe because of pain. I would love to be able to take her shopping for fun things tomorrow and not worrying about wig shopping or scarf shopping...but, as it was spoken to my heart today...this very well might be the miracle God has in store.

So, as we here at the Laird Home wind things down for the night. I ask that you who are willing to lift us up. Pray for the following things.

  • Pray that Aj gets another night of good sleep, rest free from coughing and pain.
  • The extra fluid will drain from her body quickly.
  • Pray for Bailey as she as a 4 year old try's to figure this new normal out and learns how to react to this chapter in her little life.
  • My mom -- she will be here for a few weeks helping. Pray that she will rest, stay heathy and know what things will be the most helpful.
Sweet Dreams,

Aj is HOME!

Aj is home! She is weak but sooo much better than she was even this time last night! Our hearts over flow with thanksgiving to those of you who have spent so much time praying for her. Mom and I will head out tomorrow on our way to be with Team Laird!
Prayer needs...
  • Safe travels for mom and I as we are driving to Deer Park. We will spend one night with a Childhood friend of mine.
  • That Aj's white counts stays up and continues to get better so she can receive her next treatment a week from Monday.
  • Mom will be staying in Deer Park for a few weeks. Pray for her heath and rest while she is there helping with household things, Bailey and just being with Aj.
  • Tonight lets pray that Bobby and Aj get a good nights rest and get some rest before Bailey comes home from school tomorrow to join them. Sleeping in your own bed is so much of a help no matter what.
In other news...Kaileigh lost her first tooth...all is right with the world in Cook land!
Sweet Dream,

YAY! Going Home!

Aj is getting to go home in about 3 hours. I don't know alot of details other than that. I am guessing her numbers look better and she is feeling better. And the best news on my part is I will be there in less than 48 hours!
God is always faithful!
Love you our friends!

Update...Prayers are working...keep them coming

From Bobby
10:00am

Aj is still in ICU because her immune system is so low, but her white cell count has doubled since yesterday. The cause of her pain and illness has been diagnosed, and is being treated. Because her immune system was so low, she picked up a very contagious and nasty bacterial infection, so still no visitors please. Her sprits are improving, right along with her heath, and we hope she will be out tomorrow or Thursday. Will update as informations come in.

The Lord is answering the prayers of his people...keep it up!

Update from Bobby

11:50am
Her blood pressure is back where it should be. All test are coming back normal. Her white cell count is still low, so please, no visitors. The cause of the pain has yet to be diagnosed, but the parade of doctors has begun. Will update as changes or information comes.

3:00pm
Aj is still experiencing pain in her upper abdominal area. Everyone seems to think it is tied to her white cell count being so low. She has been running a low grade fever, which goes away with Tylenol, so, they are thinking some type of bacterial infection. Still have some test out that will confirm or debunk. She is getting some rest for the first time in over 24 hours though, and doing a litter better every hour. She has doubled her time between pain meds, so that is also a good sign. Because her white cell count is so low, she may be here till Wednesday. But, her body will dictate. Thank you for your prayers please keep them up.

Thank you all so much for checking in and praying so faithful for Aj and her family. This is a time I am remind what the body of Christ is and why Jesus set such a great example with is 12 disciples.
Love from us all,

Update

This morning we are still praying for the same things. She has responded well to the medications they gave her last night and they should have all the test results from yesterday back in around lunch time today. Once I know more I promise to update at that time. Once again...thank you so very much for your prayers, concern and making time to check in on Aj.
Love to all,

Specific Prayer Need

Good evening friends and family!
I am writing tonight by a request of Bobby and Aj. Bobby just called and asked for prayers tonight for these specific things.
  • For her blood pressure to come up and stay stable. Her BP is 87/54 with her heart rate of 130. Please pray that her heart rate will come down and her BP will come up. I think these two things will help her feel so much better.
  • Pray for rest for her tonight as they are moving her to IMCU so that they can monitor her closer.
  • Pray that her body will respond to the meds she is receiving and get her to feeling better quickly.
  • Pray for Bobby as he is doing an excellent job in caring for my sister, his wife and has been so good to keep us informed.
This is not what we all had in mind for the week after chemo. But, we are believing that God has great things in store.

We all love Aj and hate to see her having to deal with this. But, with that said we are all cheering her on and believing that God has a much bigger plan...but as for tonight let just all join together in prayer for her and her BP and Heart rate.

Father, I come to you right this second asking you to bring Aj's heart rate down, and stabilize her BP. I ask you to wrap your arms around my sister and comfort her in a way only you can. God we know you are the almighty healer and we are calling on you now to lay your hands of healing on Aj to bring her body all the healing she needs in different areas. God, we know you promise never to leave us and we are holding tight to that as she is feeling so tired, and discouraged. Please restore in her your peace and your understanding. We love you and we are depending on you to carry us during this very difficult time.
In Jesus Name,
Amen

Prayers are being felt

Between now and the last time I posted Aj came down with the stomach bug type symptoms. She was up most of the night and a good part of the day sick. But, I am thrilled to report tonight she was feeling better. She was breathing better, her stomach wasn't giving her as many problems and she was headed to bed. Thank you for praying. She feels them and wanted you each to know now appreciative she is for your time spent in prayer on her behalf.
This time next week I will be updating my blog when I am also able of see her with my own eyes. Cannot wait To head that as.

Update after treatment #1

Good Evening...sorry for the late post! I just FaceTime with Aj. She is still having a lot of nausea and feels flu like. She hopes tomorrow to feel better. Over all she has had a good day. Went back to The Rose (Cancer Center) and received a few shots.
Things to pray for:
  • Pray the nausea will stop
  • She will get some good rest tonight
  • Tomorrow will be a better day
  • For Bailey as she is away from Momma as she is trying to feel better
  • The site of the port to be less painful
Thank you as always for your prayers, calls and concerns. They have asked that you try and check here before calling just because they are trying to rest and allow AJ this time to deal with just getting stronger after her treatments.

Treatment # 1

Please join me in praying for the following things today as Aj starts her first treatment. She will also be having her port put in before she receives her treatment today.

  • Pray that the port will be put in with out pain or trouble
  • Pray for the nurses and staff as the tend to Aj that they will be understanding and helpful
  • Pray for Bobby as he sits with her, helps her and that he will have peace and understanding as they start the treatment process.
  • For Aj that her fears will be calmed and she will have peace as she takes her treatments.
  • And that once her treatment is over she will be able to rest, sleep and have no side effects!

Lord, I come to you this morning asking that you be with Aj and Bobby in a special way. I ask that you calm their fears, anxiety, and nervousness. I ask that as they start this path of treatments that you would comfort and love them in a way only you can. I ask that you would allow your love for them to over flow into the lives of those around them during this time. I pray that as she has her port put in that it be free of trouble or pain. I ask that you be with Bobby as he sits with her tomorrow during her treatment that you would allow him to be a wonderful display of who you are and how they trust you. But, Father more than these things I thank you for who you are. I praise you for being the God of healing and I do not like this situation but, father we trust you, we love you and we know you have our best interest on mind. Because of those things we put our trust in you. It might be a daily surrender to remember this is your battle and you promised us you wouldn't leave us. But, we will trust you. Thank you for loving us, thank you for sending your son Jesus and thank you for blessing us with such wonderful friends and family to walk this road alongside of Aj and Bobby. Thank you for hearing our prayers...amen.

This was my devotion in the Jesus is calling book this morning and I just felt like it was perfect for today.

October 7th

In order to hear My voice, you must release all your worries into My care. Entrust to Me everything that concerns you. This clears the way for you to seek My face unhindered. Let Me free you from fear that is hiding deep inside you. Sit quietly in My presence, allowing My Light to soak into you and drive out any darkness lodged within you.

Accept each day just as I come to you, remembering that I am sovereign over your life. Rejoice in this day that I have made, trusting that I am abundantly present in it. Instead of regretting or resenting the way things are, thank Me in all circumstances. Trust Me and don’t be fearful; thank Me and rest in My sovereignty.

Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. – 1 Peter 5:6-7

This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. – Psalm 118:24

Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. – 1 Thessalonians 5:18
